"Share the Vision...Join Republican Women"
In his first legislative session, Senator Bettencourt served as the chief Senate sponsor on 25 bills that the Legislature approved, including his amendment to SB 1760 that requires a 60% supermajority within a taxing jurisdiction to increase property taxes and has already prevented Dallas ISD from imposing a $100 million tax increase on its taxpayers. Senator Bettencourt also led the passage of the Andrea Sloan “Right to Try” bill, which allows terminally ill Texas patients access to drugs still in the FDA approval pipeline, and SB 1004, which expanded dual credit opportunities in Harris County.
During the previous interim session, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick appointed Senator Bettencourt to serve as Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform & Relief. Senator Bettencourt also serves on the Senate Finance, Education, and Higher Education committees, and is the Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Most recently, he was appointed Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform, as well as the Senate Select Committee on Government Reform, and was unanimously elected by his colleagues to serve as the Chairman of the Texas Senate Republican Caucus.
A graduate of Texas A&M University, Senator Bettencourt is also a radio and television personality.

What is GHCFRW?
The Greater Houston Council of Federated Republican Women is an umbrella group of 40 Republican Women’s Clubs in 14 Texas Counties. Formed in 1962, GHCFRW supports, educates and motivates Republican women to run for elected office, become activists and advocates for conservative issues and to make a difference. Annual dues are $30.00 per club. Club Presidents and one appointed delegate have voting privileges.
Meetings are bi-monthly on the 3rd Tuesday, excepting June, July and August; permanently in the heart of Spring Branch at Trini Mendenhall Community Center, 1414 Wirt Road.
In pursuit of educating and motivating Republican women to run for elected office, May’s meeting presented “Republican Women on the Frontline”. Kristin Bays, judicial candidate for 284th District Court (Montgomery County) Melanie Bush, President of Conroe ISD school board and candidate for Montgomery County Treasurer, Sophia Mafrige, candidate for 164th Civil District Court of Harris County and Cindy Siegel, four- time Bellaire Mayor discussed experiences of campaigning for office. After the GHC meeting, the Harris County Republican Party provided lunch for all attendees. During this lunch HCRP Staff and Club Representatives discussed coordination efforts on three items 1) Campaigns 2) County Area Offices and 3) Voter Registrations.
Please plan to attend September 18, 2018 meeting with TFRW President Karen Newton. Then, at the November 20, 2018 meeting, Toni Anne Dashiell, Republican National Committeewoman will discuss the movement to eliminate the Electoral College.
